The winery was founded by 2003 by French winemaker Bernard Magrez and actor Gerard Depardieu. Ever since then, this winery they’ve been producing around 18,000 bottles a year out of 7 hectares of vineyards. In addition, Maigrez owns one of the oldest and most renowned Grand Crus in Bordeaux as well as 34 other estates, located mostly in France, but also in Portugal, Morocco, California, Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, and Spain.
Virtually, the entire production Herència del Padrí is sold in France, while a limited number of bottles can be purchased right in Porrera. International consumers may come across two different labels of this only Priorat wine they make , one of the labels featuring a portrait of Depardieu, the actor who played such complex roles like the Count of Monte Cristo and Cyrano de Bergerac, to name but a couple of his movie titles.
